Thunderbirds prepare for Laval home opener
The Springfield Thunderbirds, off to a 2-0 start for the first time since the 2021-22 season, return to the MassMutual Center on Oct. 10 to face the Laval Rocket in a home opener celebrating 100 years of professional hockey in Springfield. A downtown pregame block party, player red-carpet arrivals and a ceremony honoring the city’s hockey history will lead into the 6:05 p.m. game. Goaltenders Georgii Romanov and Will Cranley have stopped 67 of 69 shots, while T.J. Tynan, Alek Kaskimaki and rookie Justin Carbonneau have combined for 10 points; Calle Rosen has also scored an overtime winner. Team president Nathan Costa says fans will see updated concession offerings, while coach Steve Ott says the team has raised its expectations for the season.
