Google Unveils Googlebook Laptops With Deep Android Phone Integration From $899

Google opened pre-orders on September 21, 2026 for Googlebook laptops from Acer, ASUS, Dell, HP and Lenovo, priced from $899 to $1,299 and available at the Google Store and Best Buy. Devices ship October 4 in the United States and October 5 in Canada, the UK, Ireland, France, Germany and Australia. The platform, codenamed Aluminium OS in development, is a desktop-optimised Android that runs concurrent Linux under ChromeOS security architecture, with native Android apps and Gemini features. All models have at least 16GB RAM, up to 1TB SSD, backlit keyboards, haptic glass trackpads and a Glowbar lid strip in Google colours, using Intel Panther Lake or Qualcomm Snapdragon X Elite chips. Acer’s Googlebook 14 starts at $899 as the only 2-in-1, with a 14-inch 2.8K OLED touchscreen and Intel Core Ultra with 50 TOPS NPU. Dell’s XPS Googlebook starts at $1,199 with Snapdragon X Elite, 2.5K display, 512GB storage, 12.7mm thickness and about 2.22lbs; HP’s model is under 3lbs with a fingerprint-resistant finish. Qualcomm, Google, Dell and HP issued joint statements on the Snapdragon collaboration. Alexander Maxham went hands-on and called Dell the clear winner. Chromebooks continue with existing update commitments.
