Josh Jacobs Sues to Block Release of Incident Records
Green Bay Packers running back Josh Jacobs sued the Hobart-Lawrence Police Department on Oct. 14 to block public release of records, including surveillance video, from a May 23 altercation at his home. The suit followed the department’s decision that some records could be released with redactions after a judge lifted an earlier order sealing the evidence. Jacobs argues that disclosure could expose the woman’s private information and reveal security details about his home; her representatives have also sought to protect her privacy. Jacobs pleaded no contest to misdemeanor battery and criminal damage to property, receiving a $1,000 fine for battery while the property-damage charge was deferred. The department is temporarily withholding the records as legal challenges proceed, and the NFL has not obtained the video as it reviews the case.
