Eagles Release Backup Quarterback Andy Dalton
The Philadelphia Eagles released quarterback Andy Dalton on Oct. 9, 2026 ahead of Sunday's game versus the Jacksonville Jaguars in London, NFL Network's Mike Garafolo reported. Dalton's only regular-season throw was an interception in the end zone in the team's 27-7 Week 3 loss to the Chicago Bears, coming after Jalen Hurts left for a concussion check following a hit by D'Marco Jackson. Before Week 4 against the Rams, Tanner McKee was named backup over Dalton. McKee and rookie Cole Payton will now back up Hurts. Philadelphia acquired Dalton from the Carolina Panthers last spring for a seventh-round pick after he beat out McKee for the initial QB2 role. Dalton turns 39 later this month. CONTESTED: Jeff McLane of the Philadelphia Inquirer said Dalton could return to the roster or practice squad. Other reports described Dalton beginning the search for a new team. Per AP's Josh Dubow, Dalton is in line to become the seventh NFL quarterback to end a season 0-for-1 with an interception, matching Feleipe Franks of the 2021 Atlanta Falcons, if he throws no more passes. Whether Dalton rejoins the Eagles and finishes with that statline remains open.
