Virginia, Virginia Tech Face ACC Matchups
Virginia hosts Syracuse on Saturday after scoring seven points at Florida State and allowing 76 points in its first two road games; the Cavaliers need stronger leadership and improved play on both sides of the ball. Syracuse comes off a 42-41 overtime win over UConn, led by quarterback Amari Odom’s five touchdown passes and rushing score, with receiver Umari Hatcher and running back Tylik Hill also standing out. Virginia could look to receiver Martin and running back Middlebrook on offense, and linebacker Kam Robinson, safety Minter and pass rusher Fobbs-White on defense. In a separate matchup, Virginia Tech travels to California after a 35-33 loss to Pitt in which four turnovers and a missed potential game-winning field goal overshadowed quarterback Ethan Grunkemeyer’s 434 yards and three touchdowns. The Hokies held Pitt to 295 total yards but did not force a turnover, and Cal’s starting quarterback Jaron-Keawe Sagapolutele’s availability is uncertain.
