Swift’s Bears Role in Question After Fumble
Chicago Bears running back D’Andre Swift has fumbled twice in the first four games of the 2026 season, including a costly third-quarter turnover against the New York Jets that led to a field goal. Coach Ben Johnson called the fumble “egregious,” and Swift sat out the rest of the game as Kyle Monangai rushed for 146 yards and two touchdowns; Swift accepted responsibility, while Johnson has not ruled out changing the backfield workload against Green Bay. The Bears have the NFL’s top rushing offense, with both backs among the league’s leading rushers, but Monangai’s injuries could affect his availability. Swift recently signed a three-year extension and said he does not expect his early-season fumbling to become a lasting problem.
