Ronaldo Says He Will Continue Playing for Portugal
Cristiano Ronaldo said he will continue playing for Portugal after leaving the national-team camp when he was an unused substitute against Norway and learned he would not start against Denmark. He said coach Jorge Jesus had broken agreements about his role, but acknowledged that leaving camp and failing to greet supporters were wrong; he apologized to teammates and fans and said the Portuguese Football Federation should punish him without leniency. Ronaldo said he would be available again after any suspension and hoped to have one or more farewell matches for Portugal. Portugal great António Simões urged Ronaldo and Jesus to reconcile, saying Ronaldo should admit his mistake and show greater consideration for the team.
