Spain Rallies from Behind to Beat England 3-2 at Wembley

Spain came from behind to beat England 3-2 at Wembley in their Nations League Group A3 opener. Lamine Yamal scored in the second minute after Marc Guéhi lost the ball. Anthony Gordon equalised on the counter with Jude Bellingham before half-time and Harry Kane's header, deflected by Marc Cucurella from Nico O'Reilly's cross, made it 2-1 at the break. Early in the second half a VAR review awarded England a penalty for Rodri's foul on Bellingham. Kane slipped, touched the ball twice and hit the crossbar. Under the IFAB clarification of Law 14 that UEFA implemented in June 2025, a double-touch penalty that is scored must be retaken while one that is missed results in an indirect free kick to the opponents. Álex Baena equalised in the 60th minute after Dani Olmo intercepted a loose O'Reilly pass and Mikel Oyarzabal scored the winner in the 74th minute, lifting the ball over James Trafford. James Trafford started in goal for his first competitive cap ahead of Jordan Pickford. Thomas Tuchel confirmed Trafford will start again against Czechia before Pickford returns.
