Charlotte to Host WTA Finals from 2027 as Tour Moves Headquarters

The WTA announced on September 16, 2026 that Charlotte’s Spectrum Center will host the WTA Finals from 2027 through 2029. The tour is also moving its global headquarters from Florida to Charlotte. The season-ending championship for the top eight singles players and doubles teams is expected to shrink from eight public competition days to five to fit the NBA schedule. Valerie Camillo told reporters the WTA will take greater ownership and control of the event. “We want to create the Super Bowl of women’s sports,” she said. Charlotte Sports Foundation is the nonprofit partner; it previously ran the Charlotte Invitational featuring Venus Williams, Madison Keys, Frances Tiafoe and Taylor Fritz. The 2026 Finals moved to Indian Wells after the WTA ended its Saudi Arabia deal early. The Telegraph reported a possible cash shortfall and debt by autumn 2027. UBITENNIS cites $21 million operational losses in 2026 and $15 million cash remaining; Reuters cites $23 million operating losses. Camillo said the tour is doing normal belt-tightening while absorbing the Indian Wells move and has a clear path to sustainable performance from 2027. A WTA 500 could start in 2029 if Charlotte builds a dedicated tennis stadium.
