Spanish bar floor gives way, injuring 12 and trapping dozens
On October 3, 2026, before dawn, Bar Tempranillo in San Vicente de la Sonsierra, La Rioja, Spain, partially collapsed after its floor gave way and the ceiling followed. A local authority spokesperson said two buildings at 8 and 10 Zumalacárregui Street were affected after reports to the Emergency Coordination Center around 5.25am. SOS Rioja mobilized firefighters from CEIS Rioja, the Civil Guard, Rioja Health Service resources, the Red Cross, a Search and Rescue Dog Unit, a Civil Protection technician, and municipal services. Crews pulled patrons from the rubble and searched the debris; the Red Cross sent two ambulances, two logistical support vehicles, and eight paramedics. Six people went to San Pedro hospital in Logroño, about 35 kilometres away, and two to Haro health centre. No one remained trapped. The adjoining home was also damaged. Contested counts split the outlets. Metro UK reports 12 taken to hospital and up to 50 people inside. Newsbytes and The Times of India put the injured at least at 11 and about 25 to 30 people inside. Police have opened an investigation into the cause. Coverage is not split by ideology beyond those differing tallies and emphasis.
