Six Ebola Cases Reported in M23-Held Congo
Six new Ebola cases have been reported in AFC/M23-controlled areas of eastern Democratic Republic of Congo: four in Alimbongo and two in Kayna. Health officials say the infections belong to one transmission chain linked to a case from government-held Butembo; four people died before post-mortem tests confirmed Ebola, while two patients are receiving care. Teams are stepping up surveillance and contact tracing as the outbreak continues to spread. Nationwide, the outbreak has caused 4,018 deaths among 8,300 confirmed cases, and health agencies warn that insecurity and public mistrust are hampering efforts to contain it.
