Shanahan Details 49ers’ Australia Trip Toll

San Francisco 49ers coach Kyle Shanahan said the team needed several days to recover from the 17-hour time difference after its 27-7 victory over the Los Angeles Rams in the NFL’s first regular-season game in Australia. Shanahan said he felt unwell through the weekend, while players received an extended recovery period and largely adjusted by Wednesday. The experience led Shanahan and Rams coach Sean McVay to question the burden of long international travel during a demanding 17-game season, though the NFL already has commitments for additional Australia games. The 49ers also lost rookie wide receiver De’Zhaun Stribling to an ankle injury requiring surgery and an expected recovery of about 10 weeks before returning home to prepare for Miami.
