FBI, State Agencies Investigate Charlotte Schools
The FBI and U.S. Attorney’s Office have confirmed an active investigation related to Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools, but have not disclosed what it concerns. The federal inquiry joins state investigations into the district’s finances, including an SBI criminal investigation requested by the Mecklenburg County district attorney, a state auditor review, and a review by the state education department. The probes come amid allegations of financial irregularities and controversy over contracts, school board leadership and the firing of Superintendent Crystal Hill. Hill has made allegations of improper conduct by board members, but officials have not detailed the federal investigation, and no one has been criminally charged in connection with it.
