Outlets Seek Extension of White House Access Order
CNN, MS NOW and Politico have asked a federal judge to extend an order blocking President Donald Trump’s ban on their White House access, saying restrictions remain inconsistent and the full ban could return. The two-week temporary restraining order expires Oct. 8; the judge found the outlets were likely to prevail on their claim that they were denied due process. The outlets say CNN’s exclusion from some presidential pool duties shows the restrictions persist and constitute retaliation for coverage in violation of the First Amendment. The administration has cited false or sensitive national-security reporting to defend the ban, while Attorney General Todd Blanche has argued that the press must report accurately and that White House access is a privilege, not a right.
