Norway police arrest outsider in hunting party shooting that killed two

Two people were killed and a third seriously injured on Sunday, Oct. 4, 2026, when a shooter opened fire on a hunting party near Halden in southern Norway, police said. A suspect was arrested at the scene and is not believed to have been part of the hunting party. Police representative Gisle Lindheim Sveen wrote that three people were hit by bullets, two are dead, and the third is seriously wounded, and that the victims were part of a hunting party. The injured person was flown to a hospital. Emergency services secured the site. AP describes Halden as about 96 kilometers (60 miles) from Oslo near the Swedish border; AFP places it about 120 kilometers (75 miles) south of Oslo.
