North Korea Fires Projectile Toward East Sea

North Korea launched at least one unidentified projectile toward the East Sea, also known as the Sea of Japan, on Sunday, according to South Korea and Japan. Japan’s Defense Ministry assessed it appeared to be a ballistic missile and said it fell outside Japan’s exclusive economic zone, while officials have not released details on its range or trajectory. The launch followed recent North Korean missile tests and joint military exercises involving the United States, South Korea and Japan. Pyongyang has condemned the drills, rejected criticism from the U.N. nuclear watchdog and vowed to continue strengthening its nuclear arsenal.
