North Carolina Indicts 10 Noncitizens Over Alleged Voting
Federal prosecutors in North Carolina indicted 10 noncitizens for allegedly falsely claiming U.S. citizenship to register and vote in the 2024 election. The defendants include one undocumented immigrant and nine lawful permanent residents; nine appeared in federal court in Raleigh, while one is expected to appear in New Bern. A WRAL report said eight of those facing charges spoke with the station, and one said they did not know they were not a U.S. citizen. The cases follow investigations by the FBI and Homeland Security Investigations, and officials said the alleged conduct could carry up to five years in prison.
