Nexperia and Tata to produce chips at new Gujarat and Assam fabs

Nexperia announced Thursday a partnership with Tata Electronics to produce its MOSFET portfolio—power-control chips used in cars and consumer devices—at Tata's planned $11 billion 300mm fab in Dholera, Gujarat, and to assemble and test discrete chips at Tata's Jagiroad facility in Assam. "This comprehensive partnership ... represents an important step in Tata Electronics' efforts to build a globally competitive, integrated semiconductor manufacturing ecosystem in India," Tata Electronics CEO Randhir Thakur said. Nexperia COO Achim Kempe said the firms are establishing a long-term partnership that supports "innovation, growth, and supply resilience." No financial terms were disclosed. At Semicon India 2026, Tata signed seven MoUs, including Fujifilm's ₹800 crore materials plant next to Dholera. IT minister Ashwini Vaishnaw put Semicon 2.0 commitments at $11-12 billion. Applied Materials pledged $5 billion over 10 years; Lam Research about $1.1 billion. Prime Minister Narendra Modi said firms can collaborate with Indian startups "to build the semiconductor ecosystem." A Dutch court has stripped Chinese parent Wingtech of control over Nexperia. Pranav Pai of 3one4 Capital said Semicon 2.0 is "serious about the whole chain, and not just fabs."
