Nate Jackson Named Oregon’s Top Teacher From 17
Nate Jackson, a social studies teacher at Willamette High School in the Bethel School District, was named Oregon’s 2026–27 Teacher of the Year after being selected from 17 regional honorees. In seven years at the school, he has taught American, World and Black Studies, co-advised the Black Student Union, helped launch a districtwide Black Summit and raised more than $60,000 for student educational trips. State education officials praised his relationship-centered teaching and efforts to include perspectives often missing from history lessons; Jackson says he pairs challenging academic work with student support and voice. He will receive statewide recognition and a $10,000 Oregon Lottery award, while his school will receive $5,000.
