Morocco’s PJD Details 2026 Program After 2021 Rout

Morocco’s Justice and Development Party (PJD), once the main political beneficiary of the country’s post-2011 reforms, rose from 107 parliamentary seats in 2011 to 125 in 2016 before collapsing to just 13 seats in 2021. The defeat followed years of coalition difficulties and the replacement of party leader Abdelilah Benkirane as head of government in 2017. Benkirane’s return has given the party renewed visibility, with his long political career, media presence and direct communication style making him a potentially valuable electoral asset. However, his personal popularity alone does not demonstrate that the PJD has rebuilt its support, and the party must convert renewed attention into broader public confidence and electoral strength.
