MetroLink Completes $192M Airport Extension
Construction is complete on a $192 million project extending MetroLink 5.2 miles from the Shiloh-Scott Transit Center to a new station across from MidAmerica St. Louis Airport. The project also added roadway connections and a 4.5-mile MetroBikeLink Trail extension, improving access for transit riders, motorists and cyclists. Funded by $127 million from Illinois’ Rebuild Illinois program and $65 million from the St. Clair County Transit District, it is MetroLink’s first full expansion in about 20 years. Testing and safety evaluations are underway, with passenger service expected to begin in the coming months; once open, the line will connect the St. Louis region’s two airports by light rail.
