Luxembourg Airport Halts Flights After Drone Sightings

Luxembourg Airport suspended flight operations Friday evening after unauthorized drones were detected near and over Findel. Closure and diversions began at approximately 21:45 local time. Nineteen flights carrying more than 1,800 passengers were rerouted to Cologne/Bonn, Brussels, Frankfurt-Hahn, Liège, Paris, Basel and Strasbourg. Luxair confirmed 17 of its flights were affected. A KLM flight from Amsterdam and an Air Dolomiti flight from Frankfurt were also diverted. The first aircraft affected was a Luxair flight from Heraklion scheduled to land about 22:10. At least one London City flight went to Liège, Belgium. Passengers on diverted flights faced extended delays and remained on the tarmac. Only two departure flights were still scheduled that late evening; both showed boarding closed status and failed to depart. Operations resumed in the early hours of Sept. 19, 2026, with warnings of possible lingering delays. Contested: Rated outlets do not disagree on these figures or the sequence. On Saturday morning the Luxembourg government said it would reconvene an interministerial drone task force. The task force had previously met Thursday after public reports of possible drones near Medernach.
