60-Year-Old Flamingo Hatches Two, Sets Zoo Record

A 60-year-old Chilean flamingo named Queen hatched two chicks at the Louisville Zoo, in what the zoo says is believed to be a record for the oldest female flamingo to produce chicks at an Association of Zoos and Aquariums-accredited zoo; the previous record was 50. Queen’s chicks are among six that joined the flock this season, and visitors may see them taking supervised walks with their handlers. The chicks grow quickly but may take up to two years to develop their pink plumage.
