Judge set to weigh Camp Mystic bankruptcy, lawsuits
A federal bankruptcy judge is weighing Camp Mystic’s future after the 2025 floods killed 27 campers and counselors, including whether the Eastland family can continue managing the Chapter 11 case or an independent trustee should take over. Creditors and the U.S. Trustee are urging the court to appoint a trustee or convert the case to Chapter 7, while the Eastlands say they have acted appropriately and offered to hand decision-making to independent fiduciaries. The judge is also considering whether wrongful-death lawsuits, paused after the camp’s bankruptcy filing, can proceed against individual family members. A separate Texas Rangers criminal investigation into the camp owners is ongoing.
