Jessica Liu Wins Delaware’s 2027 Teacher of Year

Dr. Jessica Liu, a multilingual learner teacher at Etta J. Wilson Elementary in the Christina School District, has been named Delaware’s 2027 State Teacher of the Year and will represent the state as its nominee for National Teacher of the Year. Selected from 20 district and charter school honorees, Liu has spent a decade in elementary education and centers her teaching on belonging, strong relationships and treating students’ languages and cultures as strengths. At Wilson, she has launched initiatives including a multicultural festival, drama club and career days. Her principal praised her culturally responsive teaching and reported that all of her multilingual learners met or exceeded their English-proficiency growth goals.
