Interpol silver notice helps 82 countries identify 36 million euros in assets

Interpol is rolling out a “Silver Notice” system that lets police in its 196 member countries share information about hidden criminal assets, including cash, cryptocurrency, vehicles, property and livestock. The system, tested since January 2025, has been used by 82 countries to identify at least €36 million ($41 million) in suspected criminal assets, as authorities seek to recover more of the estimated 99% of illicit gains criminals typically retain. Italy requested the first notice to trace assets linked to a senior mafia figure, prompting Brazilian authorities to find property, apartments and livestock connected to the suspect and associates. Interpol expects member countries to fully adopt the tool in November, adding an asset-tracing mechanism to its better-known notices for wanted suspects.
