Indonesia Releases 20 Green Turtles After Bali Raid
Indonesian authorities released 20 protected green sea turtles off Bali’s Serangan Island after rescuing 22 from an abandoned boat during a suspected smuggling operation. Marine police acted on residents’ reports, but the suspected smugglers had fled before officers arrived. Two turtles remain under medical care and are expected to be released after recovering. The release followed health checks at a conservation center, and officials say investigations into the attempted trafficking are ongoing. Sea turtles have been protected under Indonesian law since 1990, and their trade is prohibited.
