Hurricanes beat Canadiens, Flyers in separate games
Carolina opened the season with a 3-2 overtime win over Philadelphia, as Sebastian Aho scored twice and assisted on Shayne Gostisbehere’s power-play winner. The victory was Carolina’s first of the season and extended its streak of winning road openers to nine consecutive seasons, tying an NHL record. The Hurricanes followed with a 6-4 win over Montreal in the Canadiens’ home opener, powered by Taylor Hall’s two goals and a three-point performance from Aho. Montreal’s Zachary Bolduc also scored twice, but Carolina pulled ahead in the second period and held on after Juraj Slafkovsky cut the deficit late.
