GlobalFoundries, Marvell Expand SiGe Output at Vermont Fab for AI Networks

On 17 September 2026 GlobalFoundries and Marvell expanded a multiyear agreement raising silicon-germanium (SiGe) production at the Burlington, Vermont fab. SiGe is a semiconductor process for high-speed, energy-efficient signal transmission. Extra capacity targets pluggable optical transceivers, near-packaged optics and co-packaged optics for AI data-center links. GlobalFoundries cited 200G-per-lane support and a roadmap to faster generations. No financial terms, capacity figures or detailed timeline were disclosed. Shares of both companies rose. ABC Money alone noted a FINRA short-sale ratio for GlobalFoundries of 0.463 on 16 September versus 0.274 a day earlier, and two Marvell Form 4 filings that day with individuals and amounts unnamed, without tying either to the news. It also flagged a 2022 GlobalFoundries-Qualcomm deal once called worth billions through 2028 as a disclosure contrast.
