Germany arrests former BND chief on espionage suspicions

Former German foreign intelligence chief August Hanning was arrested along with a former aide in an investigation into alleged espionage and treason. Hanning, who led the Federal Intelligence Service from 1998 to 2005, is accused in media reports of obtaining classified information from a former agency employee and passing it to a foreign intelligence service. The alleged recipient country has not been publicly identified, and the accusations remain under investigation.
