Fredericton weighs lowering 2030 emissions target
Fredericton is considering revising its goal of cutting greenhouse gas emissions 50 percent by 2030, citing city growth, current emissions trends and the difficulty of achieving major reductions in the short time remaining. Staff say meeting the target would depend partly on factors outside municipal control, while two councillors argue the city should not lower its ambition simply because the goal is difficult. The city’s commitment to reach net-zero emissions by 2050 would remain unchanged.
