Flint Council Approves $1.25M Food Aid, $650K Parks
Flint City Council approved $1.25 million in federal CARES Act funding for local food assistance: $715,444.50 for the Food Bank of Eastern Michigan and $540,000.02 for Catholic Charities’ North End Soup Kitchen and warming center. It also accepted a $650,000 Charles Stewart Mott Foundation grant for city park maintenance, with the Genesee County Parks and Recreation Commission carrying out eligible work. The council approved three-year agreements with Trio Paint and M&M Pavement Marking, each providing for up to $200,000 annually, subject to future budget approval for later years. A separate proposal for $150,000 to support youth job-readiness jobs at the North Flint Food Market did not advance from the Finance Committee.
