Five Police Departments Receive $708,000 in Traffic-Safety Grants
Police departments in Warner Robins, Georgia, and four California cities received grants to strengthen traffic enforcement and education aimed at reducing crashes, injuries and deaths. Warner Robins received $115,923.20 for its H.E.A.T. unit to address impaired driving, speeding and other dangerous behaviors. California grants went to Eureka ($46,000), Antioch ($95,000), Redding ($355,000) and Torrance ($96,000), supporting efforts such as DUI checkpoints and patrols, distracted-driving enforcement, and action against speeding and other crash-causing violations. The California programs also include traffic-safety education and officer training to identify impaired drivers, with some funding supporting pedestrian and bicyclist safety and, in Redding, a full-time DUI officer.
