Five Endangered Cheetah Cubs Thrive at Prague Zoo

Five cheetah cubs, four males and one female, were born at Prague Zoo on June 18. Their mother Daenerys, a first-time mother, gave birth in an outdoor enclosure as severe storms hit Prague and licked rainwater from the cubs' fur to keep them dry. Daenerys suffered an intestinal infection in August. On Sept. 25, 2026, zoo officials said the cubs looked lively and healthy. Pavel Brandl said, "At this moment, everything seems fine, but it’s still a long run." He said it may take a year to know whether the cubs survive the crucial period after birth. Accounts across outlets state that fewer than 7,000 cheetahs remain in the wild and that cheetahs can reach 70-75 mph (112-120 kph). The same accounts note every cub is critical to a species threatened with extinction.
