FBI investigates recording device planted at OpenAI
A University of Salford pilot study is testing whether machine-learning audio processing can make music more enjoyable for people with hearing loss, combining listeners’ ratings with wearable physiological measurements. The research compares hearing-aid music-enhancement models developed through the CADENZA Challenge, which aim to improve clarity and musical balance while limiting distortion. Separately, Fosi Audio’s DAP Neo offers a deliberately offline alternative to app-based listening, with local-file playback, a tactile scroll wheel, microSD storage and a $12-hour-rated battery at an $80 price. Apple’s updated Apple TV 4K takes a different approach, adding far-field microphones for hands-free Siri access alongside a new chip and a remote with Precision Finding. Another report examines the security and privacy implications of ambient recording, prompted by an alleged covert recording device planted by an OpenAI employee and broader concerns about connected devices and audio data. The St. Louis Public Radio app and listening-instructions page is unrelated to these technology developments.
