EU Panel Recommends Lilly’s Foundayo Weight-Loss Pill
The European Medicines Agency's CHMP on Oct. 16, 2026, recommended that the EU authorize Eli Lilly's once-daily pill Foundayo (orforglipron) for weight management and type 2 diabetes in adults. The recommendation goes to the European Commission for a final decision, usually about two months later. If approved, it would be the second oral weight-loss drug in the EU after Novo Nordisk's Wegovy pill. Patients in studies lost about 5% to 11% of body weight over 72 weeks depending on dose, versus roughly 2% to 2.5% for placebo, with top-dose patients averaging roughly 11%. Common side effects were nausea, vomiting and diarrhea. Foundayo was cleared in the U.S. in April. The UK authorized it Aug. 10 and Lilly launched it there Aug. 24 at £100-£120 a month. Lilly has filed in roughly 40 markets and sells it in the UK and UAE. Lilly U.S. business chief Ilya Yuffa said in September, "As soon as we get approvals, our plan is to launch," and "We're starting to see some progress." No factual disputes appear in the rated coverage. The Commission ruling is still ahead.
