McCarthy Recalls Cruise Wedding and Scientology Encounters

Jenny McCarthy said on her podcast that Tom Cruise tried to draw her and then-boyfriend Jim Carrey into Scientology, and recalled Cruise introducing her to church leader David Miscavige at his 2006 wedding to Katie Holmes. McCarthy said Holmes initially seemed like herself but appeared increasingly uncomfortable during the marriage. She contrasted Holmes’ maid of honor’s lighthearted speech with Miscavige’s roughly 30-minute speech portraying the couple as an exceptionally powerful celebrity pair, saying Holmes’ family looked confused and Holmes seemed to force a smile. McCarthy said Scientology associates she called Cruise’s “handlers” followed him, and described guests staring at her after she asked to hold the couple’s infant daughter, Suri, at the rehearsal dinner.
