Judge Restricts Halle Berry Visits Amid Abuse Claims
Olivier Martinez has sought sole custody of the 12-year-old son he shares with Halle Berry and accused her in court filings of physically abusing the boy, including choking him during an incident he says occurred Sept. 26; he also alleges other episodes of physical, verbal and emotional abuse. A Los Angeles County judge issued a temporary restraining order and limited Berry’s visits to daytime hours on Mondays, Tuesdays, Saturdays and Sundays, while denying Martinez’s request to monitor her sobriety because of insufficient information. The temporary order is set to remain in effect until an Oct. 16 hearing, when the court will consider whether to make it permanent. Berry’s lawyer calls the filing meritless and misleading, and says Martinez has violated court orders and interfered with their son’s therapeutic and educational care; Berry says she will continue to act in the boy’s best interests. Text messages included in Martinez’s filing show the former couple disputing their son’s request to be picked up, with Berry later telling Martinez she felt terrible about what happened and asking him to encourage their son to speak with her.
