Grand jury indicts woman on 14 felonies including attempted murder at Rihanna home
A Los Angeles County grand jury indicted Ivanna Lisette Ortiz, 36, on 14 felony counts including attempted murder over the March 8 shooting at Rihanna and A$AP Rocky's Beverly Crest home. Prosecutors allege she fired up to 20 rounds from an assault-style rifle around 1:20 p.m. at the occupied property. Rihanna heard about ten loud bangs, saw bullet holes in an Airstream windshield, grabbed A$AP Rocky, and they moved to secure their children and staff. Ortiz was arrested in a Sherman Oaks traffic stop about three miles away. No one was injured. District Attorney Nathan J. Hochman said shooting at an occupied home is reckless and dangerous and that pure luck, not restraint, kept anyone from being killed. Deputy District Attorney Alexander Bott said Ortiz wanted to kill Rihanna, with everyone else collateral damage, and arrived with a loaded weapon, ammunition and a wig as a disguise. She pleaded not guilty after a judge found her competent to stand trial. The indictment, returned June 18, was unsealed publicly Sept. 30. Bail is reported as $2.6 million or $2.65 million and the pretrial hearing as Oct. 28 or Oct. 29, depending on the outlet. Motive is undisclosed. She could face life in prison if convicted.
