Ducks’ Klepov Expected to Make NHL Debut
Eighteen-year-old Anaheim Ducks prospect Nikita Klepov is expected to make his NHL debut against the Edmonton Oilers after sitting out the team’s first two games. The 15th overall pick was slated for the third line at morning skate, and coach Joel Quenneville said the team had waited for a suitable matchup; Klepov said he was excited and planned to play his own game. He led the OHL with 97 points, including 37 goals and 60 assists, in 67 games for the Saginaw Spirit last season and was named the league’s rookie of the year. After signing an entry-level contract, he left his commitment to Michigan State; because he is too young for a full-time AHL assignment, Anaheim can keep him for up to nine games or return him to Saginaw. The milestone has drawn attention among hockey fans as the rebuilding Ducks fast-track one of their top prospects.
