Dredging projects span four states, varied stages
Several dredging projects are underway or planned to restore waterways, improve navigation, and address environmental and infrastructure needs. In New Jersey, emergency work at Double Creek Channel is removing up to 40,000 cubic yards of sand after storm-driven shoaling created a boating hazard, while dredging at Nantuxent Creek is restoring its authorized depth and sending material to Money Island beach for shoreline stabilization. Delaware is reviewing a proposal to dredge the Lewes Ferry Terminal basin and access channel, with public comments accepted through Nov. 13. In Highland Park, Texas, a completed $2.5 million project removed about 35,000 cubic yards of sediment from Exall Lake to improve water quality, habitat, and stormwater capacity. Rochester is preparing to lower Silver Lake for a major project that includes dredging and replacing its dam, with work also intended to improve flood protection, habitat, and park access.
