Communist Party reports 60 detained at Moscow rally
Moscow police detained dozens of people at a Communist Party rally marking the anniversary of the 1993 assault on Russia’s parliament, with reports putting the number between about 20 and 65. The party said most detainees were young people, while reports said officers moved against protesters chanting slogans including “Freedom for political prisoners,” “For fair elections” and “Down with the Tsar”; witnesses also alleged officers used force. The rally, held by a party that generally avoids direct criticism of Vladimir Putin and supports the war in Ukraine, took place amid public frustration over Ukrainian drone strikes and their effects inside Russia.
