Six Flags Permanently Closes X2 After Injury Claims
Six Flags Magic Mountain has permanently retired X2, its high-speed coaster with independently rotating seats, after temporarily closing it in July amid reports of serious rider injuries and growing safety concerns. The decision followed a CNN investigation into head injuries, hospitalizations and deaths reportedly associated with the ride, as well as lawsuits alleging traumatic brain injuries; attorneys have also said more people are considering claims. California workplace-safety officials have begun an inquiry into the injuries. Six Flags says X2 consistently passed safety tests, but park president Brian Oerding said the company decided closure was the right course as guest confidence became a concern.
