FBI Data Show Cybercrime Losses Ranging From $5.5 Million to $64.2 Million by State

FBI complaint data analyzed by Opstream show substantial variation in reported business cybercrime across states in 2025, ranging from 95 incidents and $5.5 million in losses in Wyoming to 962 incidents and $64.2 million in Virginia among the states covered. Colorado reported 792 incidents and $59.9 million in losses, while Tennessee reported 589 incidents and $49 million. Business email compromise was the leading threat nationwide, with nearly 25,000 victims reporting more than $3 billion in losses. Cyberattacks can disrupt operations, expose sensitive information and spread harm through business partners and supply chains. The issue has drawn federal attention, including a White House executive order on cybercrime defenses and congressional consideration of cybersecurity support for small businesses.
