School Bus Crashes Injure Officer, Student in Two States
In Florida, an off-duty Gainesville police officer was seriously but not life-threateningly injured when his patrol car struck a school bus stopped with its warning lights and stop arm activated; one of 13 children aboard, the driver and an aide were taken to hospitals as a precaution. In Susquehanna Township, Pennsylvania, 82-year-old William Hanna was charged after allegedly hitting a high school student crossing to board a bus; the student suffered fractures to an arm and shoulder, and investigators said video showed Hanna had time to stop. Separately, a vehicle caught fire in Susquehanna Township, rolled backward into another vehicle and then hit a school bus; police said everyone escaped and no injuries were reported, though a witness said someone on the bus was taken to a hospital.
