Anthropic to equip Claude with official voting data ahead of 2026 midterms

Anthropic plans to update Claude ahead of the November 2026 U.S. midterms with official, state-specific voting information from the nonpartisan group Democracy Works, including details on registration, polling locations and identification requirements. The chatbot is also expected to provide election results and vote counts on election night and in the days afterward. Anthropic says the additions are intended to help users find reliable election information, not to recommend candidates or tell people how to vote. In an analysis of about 250,000 U.S. conversations, political, policy and social issues accounted for 5.75% of chats, while election and voting topics made up 0.51%; requests for voting recommendations were rare. The company says it is expanding political-bias testing and strengthening systems to detect coordinated campaigns and other election-related misuse.
