16-Year-Old Charged as Adult Appears in Court
Sixteen-year-old Antonio Johnson has been charged as an adult with first-degree intentional homicide in the Oct. 1 fatal shooting of 15-year-old Rashied Schuelke in La Crosse, Wisconsin. Johnson appeared in court by video, where a judge set a $1 million cash bond with conditions including GPS-monitored house arrest, no weapons and no contact with Schuelke’s family. Investigators say surveillance video showed a person matching Johnson’s description fleeing the scene; a criminal complaint also describes a possible dispute over a firearm, though one witness said that explanation was hearsay. Johnson’s mother and brother were arrested on charges of harboring or aiding a felon in connection with the case. Police have described the shooting as isolated, and the investigation remains active.
