Human Brain Organoids Build Circuits in Cortex-Less Mice

Researchers have transplanted lab-grown human brain organoids into mice engineered to lack most of their cortex, creating xenocortical models in which human tissue integrates and expands to occupy missing brain regions, showing activity and neural connections that can restore aspects of cognition and behavior. These studies establish a new in vivo platform for studying human brain development and neurodevelopmental disorders, while highlighting both therapeutic potential and ongoing challenges in translating organoid-based findings to human health.
