If you are using a chocolate cake mix, take the chocolate flavor to its fullest potential by using hot, steaming water instead of room temperature water. The heat of the water opens up the flavors in the cocoa powder and releases a delicious taste you can't resist. So first we focus on the flavor, and now we move on to the texture.
When you think about cake, it has to be fluffy and creamy, so add a couple of extra egg yolks to give it the best consistency. When the list of ingredients call for oil, replace it with butter and it will give it a super moist, richness to the cake. For layered cakes, sprinkle some granulated sugar over the top to ensure that it bakes evenly across so you don't have to level it.
