Johanna Quaas from Halle (Germany, Saxony-Anhalt) is at the International Senior Gala in Markkleeberg, Germany. The 86-year-old woman approaches the parallel bars as the audience watches in anticipation. She is the oldest active gymnast in the world, and ready to show off her routine.
Johanna is an 11-time German Senior Champion of artistic gymnastics. At this competition she is on the parallel bars, which is one of her four events that she is doing in the 70+ years age groups. Her all-around program also includes the deep horizontal bar, floor exercise, and the gymnastic bench. Her amazing strength and flexibility is showcased as this senior gymnast hoists herself onto the parallel bars and balances herself on her shoulders, then rolling and doing more and more, including holding her whole body parallel to the bars.
Although her rivals were more than 15 years younger in this section, she won this competition. What an impressive woman, inspiring to everyone around her. She proves that no matter your age you can still accomplish what you put your mind to if you work hard enough at it.
